A Fresh Start in Nashville, TN
Last time I was in the country music capital of the world, I was on a business trip of sorts with the band. Our first trip was full of excitement and wonder at the city and the opportunity to work with a Grammy nominated producer but, to make a long story short, we ended up breaking off our ties with the label do to many differences of opinion.
Because of these frustrating series of trips to the city that ultimately left us disappointed and disheartened, I left Nashville and the people we worked with, there, with a bad taste in my mouth and I haven't really had the urge to go back - at least not for a long time.
As we neared graduation, Maria told me that her parents were planning a graduation trip for the four of us to the city that I had come to despise and I have to admit that I wasn't as excited as I should have been. I was very thankful for the gesture and excited to take a trip with Maria and her family but I was scared I would offend them with my lack of excitement.
Rest assured, I had a blast on the trip. A cheesy quote I read recently kinda hits the nail on the head.
"As with any journey, who you travel with can be more important than your destination."
However, I think I would go further and say that if you're with people you love, any situation can be one to thoroughly enjoy. I adore the Millers and not only did I have an amazing time with them, our relationship allowed me a different perspective on a place that I had set my mind on disliking.
So, I just want to thank Johnny, Cecilia, and Maria for the trip, for loving me, and for simply being who they are. There's much to explore and experience in Nashville and I think that with this new view of the city, I would totally go back some day.
Is there a place or city that you have trouble loving? Or, a more positive question would be, Is there a city or place that you have come to love that you didn't before?
Let me know in the comments. Oh, and have a wonderful rest of your day!
